WHAT THE JUDGES SAY

‘Innovative and comprehensive project with well-chosen and complementary partners; result-oriented from upstream to downstream.’
‘This tailor-made accelerator with 15 companies has achieved proven results; the incubator period is limited but results are there and well monitored.’
‘The export journey is well designed with a diversity of company needs.’

Restoring trade after the State of Qatar’s blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic sparked a demand for small companies to realize their trade potential. Small companies needed a package of services along a path to export readiness.

Accelerating exports is part of the economic pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. To diversify its economy, Qatar wants to be a centre for industrial services. Target sectors include plastics, aluminium and steel construction, power and electricity, healthcare, and information technology.

The Export Development and Promotion Agency of Qatar (TASDEER) created the Go Global Export Accelerator to enable the growth of Qatar’s export community. TASDEER selected 15 participants in three stages of development from aspiring and ready to experienced. The three groups followed a project plan within the initiative.

A COMMUNITY OF PARTNERS

Partners supported the Go Global team by guiding participants through these steps:

  • Knowledge – learn online about 40 export topics
  • Improvement – perfect the export chain from resource to finished product
  • Strategy – identify markets and a product’s unique advantage
  • Digitalization – move sales to large digital platforms
  • Promotion – exhibit at international events
  • Logistics – reduce rates for shipping
  • Certification – comply with requirements
  • Financing – find discounted funding from supplies to insurance
  • Matchmaking – list on European and Middle Eastern business databases

TASDEER chose highly ranked partners to benefit their small companies. TASDEER coordinated its partners’ services and attended meetings between partners and client companies. Programme leaders made sure that companies stayed involved and on schedule.

COMMUNICATION KEEPS SUCCESS IN SIGHT

At the start of the initiative, companies reviewed the activities for their growth strategy. They signed contracts to participate fully in each part of the strategy.

The Go Global team communicated regularly with partners and companies. Companies agreed to report deals and share data.

MEASURING SUCCESS

  • Over 300 leads generated
  • Secured deals brought $13 million in sales
  • 13 of the 15 companies received orders from foreign markets
  • An investment agreement totaled $4.1 million

By the end of the initiative, companies changed the way they did business. Five non-exporters became exporters. Companies increased efficiencies within supply chains and shipping, lowering overall costs. One business adapted its packaging to recycled materials to comply with market goals in the European Union.

‘Go Global is a well-designed programme that helped our company identify efficient strategies for our global expansion. The programme has also helped us in tackling challenges faced during our growth and development journey. We have achieved a 200% increase in our exports compared to previous years with the help of Go Global.’
